Weekend Update ( A Day Late... Oops!)

I totally meant to blog yesterday but it just ended up being a crazy busy day so... here's my weekend update... on Tuesday... oops!

Friday was a looooong day but a beautiful day. We have seriously had so much rain over the past few weeks and it is driving this gal a little crazy... I've been missing the sunshine! Anyways, it was gorgeous so a gal pal and I went out on a 5 mile walk (so fit!), I ran a few errands, and then it was time for a little mani/pedi. All this happened after a 3:30 am alarm to take a friend to the airport. My hubby was so sweet and did the driving to and from... he is on call this week so that was a huge sacrifice for him and one that I greatly appreciate :) He is the best!

Saturday morning was another early morning. Well not quite as early as the previous day ;) But we were headed into the city for brunch with my SIL and her friend. She was in town visiting a friend from college so B and I hopped on the train to join them for a yummy meal at "Pastis" and then a lovely afternoon around NYC. It was super gorgeous that day!

Sunday was definitely a day of rest. I know B was exhausted from his work week and two early mornings and he had another long week ahead. Have I mentioned that I am super thankful for what he does?!?! We missed church this past Sunday but it was so nice to catch up on some sleep, have a lazy morning filled with coffee and homemade waffles, an afternoon of reading, cleaning, and catching some rays by the pool. It was so nice to just stay at home :)

And though Mondays are not considered the weekend, I am a day late so I'm including it anyway ;) I picked my friend up back from the airport and drove back into town, we grabbed a quick bite, and quickly got ready to catch the train back into NYC. Why the rush?!?! We had a show to go to! We went to The American Ballet Theatre's Opening Gala and it was AMAZING! It was held at The Met and everything was just stunning... the theatre, the people in attendance, the dancers, and all the pieces. I was so happy my friend Shawn invited me to go! After a hot dog from a street vendor and a slice of cake from Junior's, we were home and completely wiped out. I'm surprised I'm even functioning today because I'm so tired, haha.

I hope y'all had a fantastic weekend!

What I'm Loving Wednesday

Happy Wednesday y'all!! I hope wherever you are that the sun is shining because it has been nonstop rain where we are... good grief! It does make for a good excuse to curl up with a good book though ;) Anywho, time to link up with Miss Jamie! Here's what I'm loving today:

I'm loving that we have a dear friend coming to stay with us for a few days. Shawn is always a hoot to have around and I absolutely love it when he visits... we do not see each other enough!

I'm loving some of the sale items I picked up last week at J. Crew. I adore their "perfect tee's" because... well, they really do fit perfectly! haha ;) I've been eyeing this purple maxi for quite some time so when I saw it was $30 off the original price I jumped on it! I love simple outfits like maxi's and tee's during the summer time.

I'm loving Too Faced new summer eye collection. The colors are gorgeous!

I'm loving that "The Bachelorette" returns on Monday! I loved Emily on Brad's season and I'm so happy that she's doing this on her own now. She is the epitomy of a true southern belle. I think it will be interesting to watch how she does when she's in control. I don't find her to be one who gets caught up in the drama so I'm wondering what shenanigans they'll pull to keep it from getting boring. I've been waiting for her season for so long... no offense to any Ben lovers but I was not a fan of him being The Bachelor... ew!

And, as always, I'm loving my sweet, sweet hubby! He has a stressful and busy next week and a half on call at the hospital but I am so thankful for all his hard work.

Have a great Wednesday!!

Being A Biblical Wife in a Modern World

Working On Our Fitness

"For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come."
~1 Timothy 4:8~

In today's world, women are expected to be lean, toned, thin, and fit. Between celebrities and models flaunting their bodies all over our televisions and magazines, the pressure can weigh a ton when we step on that scale or look in our mirror. I am an avid supporter in leading a healthy lifestyle but I have learned that much more than just daily trips to the gym account for our overall health. My spiritual health needs to come first so that I am able to focus on the other key components that make up my overall lifestyle. Going to the gym and planning nutritious meals are certainly important, and absolutely necessary, but if we're out of shape with our relationship with God, what kind of fit, healthy lifestyle are we really leading?

I actually came across today's verse while reading a Karen Kingsbury book and it really got me thinking... I put a lot of emphasis on physical training. If I go to the gym and put in a solid workout, I automatically measure the success of my day. I went to the gym so that equals a happy, satisfied "me". If I miss a workout or eat some ice cream, I assume that my day has been a bust and guilt overwhelms and consumes me. As I'm writing this, I realize how silly that sounds but I am sure there are several women who have shared the same thoughts, feelings, and emotions. Most importantly though, I can recognize the mistake that I have been putting too much emphasis on "physical training".

I love today's verse because it acknowledges that physical training does in fact hold some value in our lives but it ultimately reminds us of what holds all value. Leading a godly life should remain our number one priority in this life. We are to strive to put all our hope and faith in God and His teachings. We are to follow His commandments and shine our light for Him each and every day. Every time we open our Bibles to read Scripture, He is training us. Every time we are faced with a difficult situation, He is training us. When we receive incredible blessings, He is training us. While this sort of lifestyle and outlook can be trying and difficult at times, it leads to a much stronger, much fitter, much more toned spiritual health. His training prepares us for this life... and the next.

Other Key Verses:

"Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil. This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones."
~Proverbs 3:7-8~

"Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well."
~3 John 1:2~

Biblical Wife Challenge:

I definitely urge you to keep making those trips to the gym but before heading out that door, try to make some time for God and replenish your spiritual health before working on your physical health. Before hitting the road for that long run, maybe spend some time in His Word, read your favorite devotion, or just simply pray. Let's spend this week getting our priorities back on track!

Get your hubby or beau in on the action! If you don't already work out with that handsome man of yours, try to include him in one workout this week. It's always nice to have an encouraging workout buddy and it's good bonding time!

What I'm Loving Wednesday

Hello ladies!! Hope y'all are having a great Wednesday... time for a link up with Miss Jamie!! Here's what I'm loving today:

I'm loving that B and I were able to make a day trip to Boston this past weekend. It had been FOREVER since I had been and this was the hubby's first trip. We were so, so, so excited to see our dear friends and meet their sweet, little baby girl. We woke up early, grabbed a quick breakfast, and hit the road. A couple of hours later we arrived and visited the Sam Adams Brewery for a tour and tasting. I knew the hubby would enjoy this part of the day ;) We finally met up with our pals and enjoyed the rest of the day together. We had lunch, coffee, and strolled around Boston. It was so great to see them... we literally live across the country from one another, haha!! Miss them lots.

{please excuse how gross I look in this pic... cold, windy, bundled up, and not feeling so hot!}

I'm loving Miss Carrie's new album. I just downloaded it this morning and it's been playing non-stop... for real! Love her!
