Ivy League Shenanigans and Other Random Life Happenings

Hey gals! I have been out of the bloggy world for far, far, far too long. The past couple of weeks have been crazy busy and it's not slowing down anytime soon. In exactly 3 weeks B and I start our road trip to our new home in:

{via}

FLORIDA!!!!
I can not believe that we are moving so soon. In a little over 2 weeks the movers come to pack and load up our apartment so we've just been going through clothes, shoes, books, etc,... to figure out what needs to go with us and what can be donated. We spent the better of this past week cleaning and organizing but Friday night was an exception...

B had his graduation dinner and he is officially finished with his neuroradiology fellowship! It was so, so, so exciting to see him get his certificate and to see all the residents and fellows enjoy a night together. It was at country club here in Connecticut and the weather was absolutely beautiful. There were probably 200 guests... (I had no idea that the department was this huge!) and we enjoyed great wine and yummy food.

B and I had a great time together and with our pals. It is hard to believe that an entire year has already gone by and it's time to pack up and move on. Our group of friends are spreading out all over the country and are headed to some pretty awesome places... New York, Boston, Phoenix, and even Hawaii. We've got some great places to go visit ;) It was a fun night was fun friends but we had to head home early... B was on call the next day. Boo :( Here's just a couple of pics from Friday night. I have some more but will have to dig them up later:

Hope y'all had a great weekend! Happy Monday!

Being A Biblical Wife in A Modern World

Ever Changing

"Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever."
~Hebrews 13:8~

We are constantly in a state of change. Whether it is personally, within our marriages, our family relationships, our finances, our jobs... something in our lives are always changing. My sweet hubby and I are a few weeks out from making another big change in our lives. We're relocating... again! This upcoming move is a rush of emotions for me. I'm so excited, a little anxious, a bit nervous, and yes, a tad scared. Right when I feel like I'm getting settled where we're at, we have to pick up and start all over again. Will we like our new jobs? What will our neighbors be like? Will we make new friends? How soon will we find a church "home"? The questions are endless but one thing is set in stone and that is Jesus Christ. He is the one thing in our lives that is certain and sure. He is the same "yesterday and today and forever." He is in charge and leading us down this new path towards our new life.

Though our lives are ever changing, His love for us remains the same. He is not changing! Our God is strong. He is solid. He is our Rock. One of the meanings of the word "rock" is reliable. Isn't that just what our Almighty God is? Reliable? When we need Him most for our praises and prayers, He is there. No matter what are we going through, He is there.

God is our source of strength through all the changes that life throws our way. Ultimately I know that God is watching over us and that this move is all part of His plan. Whether I feel ready or not, I know that I can pass my feelings and emotions over to Him and He will carry this burden of mine. He is our security and safe haven during times of change and as we go about this earthly life and go through our many changes, we can rest assured that one thing will always be solid. And that is our Rock, our Savior, our God.

Other Key Verses:
"The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe."
~Proverbs 18:10~

"The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge. He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold."
~Psalm 18:2~

Biblical Wife Challenge:
What changes are you going through at this time in your life?

Take a few moments alone and write a prayer asking for God's guidance and comfort during this time. Release your worries to Him and feel the weight being released from your shoulders. He is so faithful and reliable.

Being A Biblical Wife in a Modern World

Stronger

"She is clothed in strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come."
~Proverbs 31:25~

After a conversation with a special lady this past week, I felt compelled and drawn to read Proverbs 31 and about the "wife of noble character." We all go through tough times when the days seem endless, our to-do lists keep growing, or we're just out of sync with our hubby. When we live in this stressful and challenging world of ours, days like the one mentioned above are bound to happen. Marriage is such a wonderful, sacred, and amazing blessing but that certainly doesn't mean that it will not present challenges.

The wife in Proverbs 31 is beyond admirable and is an incredible example of what God wants us to do within our role as a wife. She provides food and clothing for her family, she is prepared for hard times, she is up before sunrise, she helps the less fortunate, and she even buys her own land and plants a vineyard...  you get the picture! She is a busy, multitasking, hard working lady and her husband and children find wisdom in her and call her blessed. Amazing! But my favorite verse is verse 25. It shows she is strong. She is dignified. She laughs at days to come. She is free of worry. She is not anxious. She is ready for what lies ahead and welcomes any challenge that may unwrap itself in front of her. Can we relate to this? Can we describe ourself in the same manner? I'd like to think that I am a pretty easy going gal who strives to find the positive side of things throughout life but it wasn't two weeks ago that I had a breakdown in the car because I felt so overwhelmed. I was a mix of emotions and just down right stressed about changes that were happening so quickly in our lives. Great changes but nonetheless, changes.

We all have our moments. We are after all, only human. But when I read today's verse: "She is clothed in strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come", I imagine myself literally clothing myself in my armor of strength and dignity each morning and preparing for the day's tasks. I envision myself laughing and approaching the day with a carefree, positive attitude. We are women and wives of God and no matter the changes, challenges, or emotional barriers we are fighting, we can overcome them because we have God protecting and providing for us. We can clothe ourselves with His strength and fight whatever battle that we may be facing.

Proverbs 31 provides an exemplary woman to model what being a wife is all about. We are so much more that what meets the eye. We are strong, ready, and able women of God.

Other Key Verses:
"She sets about her work vigorously; her arms are strong for her tasks."
~Proverbs 31:17~

"Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised."
~Proverbs 31:30~

Biblical Wife Challenge:
As a wife, what challenge are you facing today? Write a prayer asking God for strength during this time and for Him to clothe you each day in the necessary attire to face this challenge.

Read through Proverbs 31:10-31. What stands out most to you about this noble wife? What traits do you want to implement into your own role as a wife? Share with your hubby what your desires are as a wife and what you want to provide for him. In turn, what does he want to provide for you? As a husband, what are his goals?

Ephesians 5:22-33 offers wonderful insight on what God calls us to do in these special positions of husband and wife. It's a beautiful portrait of how our marriages should reflect Christ and His love for the church.

Weekend Update ( A Day Late... Oops!)

I totally meant to blog yesterday but it just ended up being a crazy busy day so... here's my weekend update... on Tuesday... oops!

Friday was a looooong day but a beautiful day. We have seriously had so much rain over the past few weeks and it is driving this gal a little crazy... I've been missing the sunshine! Anyways, it was gorgeous so a gal pal and I went out on a 5 mile walk (so fit!), I ran a few errands, and then it was time for a little mani/pedi. All this happened after a 3:30 am alarm to take a friend to the airport. My hubby was so sweet and did the driving to and from... he is on call this week so that was a huge sacrifice for him and one that I greatly appreciate :) He is the best!

Saturday morning was another early morning. Well not quite as early as the previous day ;) But we were headed into the city for brunch with my SIL and her friend. She was in town visiting a friend from college so B and I hopped on the train to join them for a yummy meal at "Pastis" and then a lovely afternoon around NYC. It was super gorgeous that day!

{Me and the Hubby... I seriously love that man!}

Sunday was definitely a day of rest. I know B was exhausted from his work week and two early mornings and he had another long week ahead. Have I mentioned that I am super thankful for what he does?!?! We missed church this past Sunday but it was so nice to catch up on some sleep, have a lazy morning filled with coffee and homemade waffles, an afternoon of reading, cleaning, and catching some rays by the pool. It was so nice to just stay at home :)

And though Mondays are not considered the weekend, I am a day late so I'm including it anyway ;) I picked my friend up back from the airport and drove back into town, we grabbed a quick bite, and quickly got ready to catch the train back into NYC. Why the rush?!?! We had a show to go to! We went to The American Ballet Theatre's Opening Gala and it was AMAZING! It was held at The Met and everything was just stunning... the theatre, the people in attendance, the dancers, and all the pieces. I was so happy my friend Shawn invited me to go! After a hot dog from a street vendor and a slice of cake from Junior's, we were home and completely wiped out. I'm surprised I'm even functioning today because I'm so tired, haha.

I hope y'all had a fantastic weekend!

What I'm Loving Wednesday

Happy Wednesday y'all!! I hope wherever you are that the sun is shining because it has been nonstop rain where we are... good grief! It does make for a good excuse to curl up with a good book though ;) Anywho, time to link up with Miss Jamie! Here's what I'm loving today:

I'm loving that we have a dear friend coming to stay with us for a few days. Shawn is always a hoot to have around and I absolutely love it when he visits... we do not see each other enough!

I'm loving some of the sale items I picked up last week at J. Crew. I adore their "perfect tee's" because... well, they really do fit perfectly! haha ;) I've been eyeing this purple maxi for quite some time so when I saw it was $30 off the original price I jumped on it! I love simple outfits like maxi's and tee's during the summer time.

I'm loving Too Faced new summer eye collection. The colors are gorgeous!

I'm loving that "The Bachelorette" returns on Monday! I loved Emily on Brad's season and I'm so happy that she's doing this on her own now. She is the epitomy of a true southern belle. I think it will be interesting to watch how she does when she's in control. I don't find her to be one who gets caught up in the drama so I'm wondering what shenanigans they'll pull to keep it from getting boring. I've been waiting for her season for so long... no offense to any Ben lovers but I was not a fan of him being The Bachelor... ew!

I'm loving some of my Pinterest finds:

You can follow my boards and pins here!

And, as always, I'm loving my sweet, sweet hubby! He has a stressful and busy next week and a half on call at the hospital but I am so thankful for all his hard work.

Have a great Wednesday!!

Being A Biblical Wife in a Modern World

Working On Our Fitness

"For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come."
~1 Timothy 4:8~

In today's world, women are expected to be lean, toned, thin, and fit. Between celebrities and models flaunting their bodies all over our televisions and magazines, the pressure can weigh a ton when we step on that scale or look in our mirror. I am an avid supporter in leading a healthy lifestyle but I have learned that much more than just daily trips to the gym account for our overall health. My spiritual health needs to come first so that I am able to focus on the other key components that make up my overall lifestyle. Going to the gym and planning nutritious meals are certainly important, and absolutely necessary, but if we're out of shape with our relationship with God, what kind of fit, healthy lifestyle are we really leading?

I actually came across today's verse while reading a Karen Kingsbury book and it really got me thinking... I put a lot of emphasis on physical training. If I go to the gym and put in a solid workout, I automatically measure the success of my day. I went to the gym so that equals a happy, satisfied "me". If I miss a workout or eat some ice cream, I assume that my day has been a bust and guilt overwhelms and consumes me. As I'm writing this, I realize how silly that sounds but I am sure there are several women who have shared the same thoughts, feelings, and emotions. Most importantly though, I can recognize the mistake that I have been putting too much emphasis on "physical training".

I love today's verse because it acknowledges that physical training does in fact hold some value in our lives but it ultimately reminds us of what holds all value. Leading a godly life should remain our number one priority in this life. We are to strive to put all our hope and faith in God and His teachings. We are to follow His commandments and shine our light for Him each and every day. Every time we open our Bibles to read Scripture, He is training us. Every time we are faced with a difficult situation, He is training us. When we receive incredible blessings, He is training us. While this sort of lifestyle and outlook can be trying and difficult at times, it leads to a much stronger, much fitter, much more toned spiritual health. His training prepares us for this life... and the next.

Other Key Verses:

"Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil. This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones."
~Proverbs 3:7-8~

"Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well."
~3 John 1:2~

Biblical Wife Challenge:

I definitely urge you to keep making those trips to the gym but before heading out that door, try to make some time for God and replenish your spiritual health before working on your physical health. Before hitting the road for that long run, maybe spend some time in His Word, read your favorite devotion, or just simply pray. Let's spend this week getting our priorities back on track!

Get your hubby or beau in on the action! If you don't already work out with that handsome man of yours, try to include him in one workout this week. It's always nice to have an encouraging workout buddy and it's good bonding time!
