A Little Saturday Inspiration...

I was reading the following devotion yesterday, from Girlfriends in God, and it immediately took me back to a few different times in my life when I just wasn't sure where God was leading me. Last year was one of those times as my hubby went through interview after interview, searching for a job, and then playing the waiting game. We had moved to Connecticut for a short time, for his final year of training and the job search began almost immediately. Several months were spent researching jobs and locations, making phone calls, sending countless emails, and constantly updating the resume. It was an exciting yet frustrating time... we watched some of his co-workers sign contracts and celebrate their new positions... when would this happen for us? We had it all planned out where we wanted to be... but where did God want us to be?

These times are so special... it pulled B and I closer together and when he accepted his offer here in Florida, the moment was so sweet and so joyful! We chose to let go and let God, and it paid off.

I'm sitting here at our kitchen table... B just left for work. I look out the window to my left and I see the sunshine and palm trees. I feel my sweet baby kick and move inside of me and I am reminded of God's plan for us... it is far bigger and far better than anything that we could ever plan or ever imagine. The year is coming to a close and I look at how much our lives have changed in just one short year and I am forever grateful for all the challenges, the road blocks, and the blessings that He has sent our way. I can't help but sit here and smile and feel overwhelmed with contentment.

Our life is far from perfect but it's a wonderful life and we truly owe everything to God!

Girlfriends in God Devotion:

Holding Fast to the Faithful One

Today’s Truth
But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us. We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed. 2 Corinthians 4:7-9
Friend to Friend
My husband and I were in a waiting period. His company had gone through a merger and was collapsing positions and territories, which left his employment in jeopardy. For months we didn’t know if Brad would keep his job or if he would need to look for another one. During that time, God bid us to trust Him.
Choosing to trust God is so daily, isn’t it? When I only looked at the “what-ifs” of Brad’s job situation – the possible unemployment, the grueling process of job-hunting, the financial strain unemployment would bring, and the uncertainty of the economy – my faith and God-confidence shook and waned. Fear and doubt knocked on my heart, suitcases in hand, wanting to move in and take up residence. On the other hand, when I fixed my eyes on God, looked at His character and at the ways He had brought us through hard times in the past, my faith was strengthened. Courage, confidence and joy knocked on my heart! They are much better residents!
The Old Testament book of Ruth features the heart-warming story of Ruth and Naomi: two women who faced difficult circumstances and an uncertain future. Following the death of her husband and sons, Naomi decided to move back to her homeland of Israel. Though she freed her daughters-in-law to stay in their home country of Moab and re-marry, Ruth refused to leave Naomi’s side.
Determined and loyal, Ruth held tightly to the mother-in-law she loved deeply and to the God of Israel whom she now called her own. Though our natural tendency in hard times is often to try to go it alone, I’ve learned from Ruth, and from my own experience, that in turbulent times it’s vital that we hold fast to our faithful God and to the ones we love.
“Look,” said Naomi, “your sister-in-law is going back to her people and her gods. Go back with her.”
But Ruth replied, “Don’t urge me to leave you or to turn back from you. Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God. Where you die I will die, and there I will be buried. May the Lord deal with me, be it ever so severely, if anything but death separates you and me.” When Naomi realized that Ruth was determined to go with her, she stopped urging her” (vv. 15-18).
God breathed hope into the souls of Naomi and Ruth through their kinsman-redeemer, Boaz. The book of Ruth goes on to tell a fascinating account of how God lovingly cared for and blessed Naomi as He used the faithful friendship and kindness of Ruth to “renew her life and sustain her” (4:15). She traveled back to Bethlehem as a broken, depressed and hopeless widow but was comforted and restored by the loving hand of God.
Like Naomi, when I experience difficult times – like the one Brad and I were facing a few years ago – I have to choose to trust God. Some days I choose well. Some days I don’t. Choosing to trust is essential.
How can we choose to trust God? I’ve found that my courage to trust is bolstered by playing praise music, meditating on God’s goodness, reading Scripture, and praying. Those things collectively renew my mind and strengthen my faith.
No matter what challenges you face today, take comfort that God knows every issue on your heart and is able to shoulder your burdens. Hold fast to the faithful One. Your challenges do not fall outside the scope of God’s ability to intervene. God is mysterious, He’s powerful, and He’s able! When you lift your eyes from your situation and fix them on your Savior – when you choose to trust Him – you will find peace in the pain and strength in the struggle.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will make your paths straight.” (Proverbs 3:5-6)
Let’s Pray
Dear Lord, You know exactly where I am right now and You know the circumstance of my life. Please give me the courage to be gracious in my relationships, and help me to trust You today. In Jesus’s name, amen.

Our Year in Pictures

This past year has gone by so quickly but it has definitely been a year that has changed my life. B and I have grown much more close since making our big move last summer. We came to Connecticut knowing absolutely no one and knowing very little about our new residence. We are leaving with new and close friends that we will keep for a lifetime and with memories and experiences that we will remember forever. Connecticut will always hold a special place in our hearts and it will be a place that we visit many times in the future. I have soaked up the sites of the Connecticut shoreline, become an avid train passenger traveling to NYC, discovered new friends, been in awe of having Yale's campus as my playground, watched my hubby complete an awesome year of training, experienced my sister's and SIL's first visits up north, and we have gone through many "firsts" of our own.

Here are some photos that reflect some of our time in this special place:

I am beyond grateful that B and I are on this journey together and that Connecticut was a pit stop along our path. We have really enjoyed our time here but we are very much looking forward to what this next chapter has in store for us.

And it begins...

When we moved to Connecticut last summer, we knew we would be here for at least a year and that anything after B's fellowship was, well...something we would deal with later, haha. Y'all... "later" has arrived! B began his job search right before the holidays and started getting in touch with practices that may be hiring come summer 2012. He got a few leads, submitted his CV to quite a few different places, references were called, and our hopes were up. By the middle of December we kind of hit a wall. The holidays are always a busy time for everyone so we figured people were in and out of work and it was time to set the job thing on the shelf until the beginning of the year. I don't know if any of y'all have an issue with this, but being patient is super hard! I am such a planner and love to be somewhat organized. Last minute plans drive me crazy and not having some sort of "agenda" to follow puts me in all kinds of disarray. You can imagine my excitement when B told me that he was offered an in interview! And you can imagine my OCD kick in when he told me that they wanted to meet with him in 2 weeks and gave us no further travel info or definite dates.

Between all of our excitement, bewilderment, and more patience, everything has been set and all travel arrangements are to be finalized Monday morning. Our first stop on my hubby's interview tour is...

Tampa, Florida!

B has had his eye on Tampa for so long so I know he is super pumped for this opportunity! I am so,so,so happy for him :) I have never been to Tampa but B has and he loves it. Now we all know that I'm a southern girl at heart so getting back south where warm weather reigns supreme is fine by me. I remember when B first introduced the idea to go to Tampa. I was totally hesitant but the more reading I've done on the city, the more excited I got about adding it to "our list". Yes... we have a "list" of places we'd like to be and possible settle down. Tampa is high on that list ;)

All I've been thinking about since last night is being to able to get away and escape to some warm sunshine for a bit. My spring/summer clothes have been packed away for a few months now but it looks like I get to pull out a few numbers for our little visit. I can not wait! I love experiencing a new city and traveling to new places but I'm really excited for B to learn more about this awesome opportunity.

These pics from Pinterest have definitely sparked some Florida love in my heart:

I posted something about the start to our new journey on FB and I was so pleased when one of B's aunts commented about how I am an "amazingly adaptable woman". I take a lot of pride in being a supportive wife and truly making myself adaptable to where my hubby needs to be for his work right now. Carol...thank you for your sweet comment! It made me smile :) It is not always easy to put someone else in front of our own wants but this gal has a few business ideas of her own and I know that in God's time everything will work and that B will be there for me. For now, I just gotta keep being patient!

Have a fabulous Friday ladies!

My Year in Review: 2011

I can't believe that 2011 is almost over! This past year has gone by so quickly and here we are getting ready to enter a new year. As 2011 draws to a close, I can't help but feel so blessed. B and I have had an incredible year together and I so look forward to what 2012 has in store for us! Here's my year in review:

January
2011 was off to a busy beginning! I was totally caught up in prepping my LHS dance team girlies for their national competition. Between extra practices, regional competitions, bedazzling costumes, and my other regular teaching job, this gal was whooped and running on pure adrenaline. My girls had a great start to the 2011 year. We won both regionals as well Grand Champs and I picked up a choreography award along the way. Not too shabby ;)

February
February was a bittersweet month. My dance team was the first team in LHS history to advance to finals at nationals...ever! Pretty cool and such an awesome opportunity for me, as a coach. The time I spent coaching was definitely challenging but overall very, very rewarding. It was a tough month though because my sweet Papa passed away. He was so very special to our family and brought such joy into our lives. He has been greatly missed but the peace he has now with our Lord is better than anything we could have given him here on Earth. I am so thankful for the time I had with him. The holidays weren't the same without his smiling face. B and I closed out the month by spending a lot of time with my family and B experiencing his first UK basketball game at Rupp!

March
B and I were totally engrossed with work come March. B was studying like a mad man for his final board exam and working crazy long hours to finish up his residency. I was in full recital mode at the dance studio. Long days, long nights, long hours, and lots of caffeine pretty much summed up our month of March!

April
Thank goodness the first week of April was a vacation for me and B... we needed it! We traveled to Charlotte, NC to celebrate our 2nd anniversary. It was so, so, so much fun! Food, shopping, bike rides, lots of rest...it was amazing and so relaxing. April is always a fun month for us. Both of our birthdays are that month as well ;) I am so in love with my sweet, sweet hubby!

May
May was another month of work, work, work and study, study, study. Also thrown into the mix was pack, pack, pack! It was a crazy month that included more recital planning and B taking his Oral Board Examination. In between we were trying to visit and see friends and family before our move to Connecticut.

June
June began with my final recital at DESOD. It was absolutely amazing and so, so sad. I grew up dancing at the same studio where I taught. This past year was my 23rd recital! It was a blast to see all my kiddos on stage. B had his residency graduation as well. I was so proud of him and this huge accomplishment. Oh...we also had a lot of packing still going on ;)

July
July marked our big move to Connecticut and the beginning of B's fellowship. We were so thankful to have my mom and sis help us with the move and we were able to enjoy my sister's first trip into NYC! At the end of the month, I was so happy to go to my sister's dance nationals in Myrtle Beach. It was awesome to watch my kiddos dancing again...they killed it! So proud of them and happy that I had some extra time with my dance family.

August
Well...we experienced a few things in August, haha ;) An earthquake and Hurricane/Tropical Storm Irene. I'm so thankful that God protected us during both and that things weren't worse but man...both were scary. Our month ended on a much happier note though. There was a huge "welcome" party for all the fellows. It was so wonderful to finally meet everyone that B was working with and great friendships were made that night. I cannot even begin to describe how thankful I am for the people we have met up here!

September
B was working like crazy and I traveled home for lots of choreography jobs. It was great to be home but it was definitely a work trip...I was so tired by the time I got back up north!

October
We went to our first clam bake at the beginning of the month and it was yummy! B's work set the whole thing up and it was absolutely gorgeous. Good food, great beach, and lots of memories! We also went to the apple orchard with friends, had our first snow, and B was officially named "chief fellow". Pretty good month ;)

November
November was awesome! I made my first Thanksgiving meal, our BFF Shawn came for a visit, we went to the Yale/Harvard game and tailgate, and we snuck in a day in NYC. Lots of memories from this month!

December
Before we knew it, December was here! We've been in Connecticut 6 months now and we can't believe we're halfway through B's fellowship. We were so happy to go to our KY home for the holidays. We got to see both families, catch up with dear friends, and go to a UK game. Fun, fun, fun times!

2011 has been a memorable year! I'm looking forward to ringing in the New Year with my hubby and can't wait to see what lies ahead for us. We have been so richly blessed this past year and I can only hope that 2012 is filled with more exciting adventures!

Happy New Year Y'all!
xoxo
